As a physician assistant (PA) for over ten years, I have seen firsthand the devastating impact that unhealthy habits can have on people’s health and lives. In contrast, the most joyful part of my work as a PA has been seeing some people make healthy changes that allowed them to come off medications, feel better, and live more fully.
For years I dreamed of having the opportunity to spend more of my time helping people make lifestyle changes and being more closely involved in walking with them on that journey. I searched for a way to do that and discovered health coaching. As a health coach, I have the privilege of focusing exclusively on what I love most - helping people make sustainable lifestyle changes so they can feel their best.
I am a Wellcoaches® Certified Health & Well-being Coach. I have my Lifestyle Medicine Professional Certification from the American College of Lifestyle Medicine and a master’s degree in public health (MPH) from Johns Hopkins University. As a physician assistant, I have worked in several different settings including hospital medicine and primary care.
It can feel impossible to make changes if you're trying to do it all on your own. Fortunately, you don't have to do it alone! I am here to support you every step of the way.
Quick fix solutions = short term results
Developing new mindsets, habits, and skills = lasting results
Each person's journey is different. You have a unique set of circumstances, preferences, strengths, and challenges. That's why the “coach approach” is fully individualized and puts you in the driver’s seat. My role is to help keep you moving forward toward where you want to go and to provide navigation support along the way.
Our sessions should feel fun, uplifting, and nonjudgmental. The first session is focused on creating your personal wellness vision and setting your 3-month goals. Then we’ll move toward those larger goals with weekly mini-goals of your choosing, which can also be thought of as weekly experiments. During each session, we will also have a more in-depth conversation about whatever topic you would like to discuss. All sessions are done virtually over video call.
A habit is something you do consistently, often without thinking about it. A health habit is a habit that impacts your physical, mental, or emotional well-being. Examples of health habits include:
Eating patterns: The foods and drinks you regularly consume and your approach to when and how much to eat
Movement and physical activity: Your exercise routines and daily activity levels
Sleep routines: Your sleep schedule and wind down routines
Social connection: The frequency and quality of your interactions with others
Time in nature: How often you spend time outdoors and how you savor natural beauty
Despite the known positive impact of a healthy lifestyle, many people struggle to make changes. And that is no surprise! Most of us have experienced how challenging it can be to break a bad habit or start a new healthy one. To make changes that stick, many of us need more than just information or advice - we need implementation support.
